A chess tournament dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Independence Day was held in California

A chess tournament dedicated to the Independence Day of Azerbaijan was held on May 28, 2022, in San Diego, California.

Supported by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles and organized by La Jolla/Riford Library, La Jolla High School Chess Club, and Global Neighborhood Project, the 4th Annual San Diego - Azerbaijan Youth Chess Tournament was attended by 30 young American chess players between the ages of 8 and 18.

The winners of the first 3 places were awarded certificates of achievement and presents by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan. Also, various Azerbaijani souvenirs and publications were presented to all participants of the tournament.

The chess players were informed about Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, its remarkable chess history and traditions as one of the world’s top chess nations, and the current development of this sport in the country.
