Former Consuls General

Elin Suleymanov

Elin Suleymanov was the nation’s first Consul General to Los Angeles and the Western States between 2005 and 2011 leading the team, which established Azerbaijani diplomatic presence on the West Coast.

On July 26, 2021, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev appointed Elin Suleymanov as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Prior to that, for almost 10 years, Mr. Suleymanov had been Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United States. Earlier, he served as Senior Counselor at the Foreign Relations Department, Office of the President in Baku, Azerbaijan and as Press Officer of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington, DC.

A graduate of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Medford, Massachusetts, Mr. Suleymanov also holds graduate degrees from the Political Geography department of the Moscow State University, Russia, and from the University of Toledo, Ohio. Mr. Suleymanov has authored numerous articles and is a frequent presenter at academic events. He speaks Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Czech languages.

 

Nasimi Aghayev

Nasimi Aghayev was Azerbaijan's Consul General to Los Angeles and the Western States between 2012 and 2022 leading the team, which promoted Azerbaijani diplomatic presence on the West Coast.

On August 19, 2022, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev appointed Nasimi Aghayev as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany.

Prior to that, for almost 10 years, Mr. Aghayev had been the Dean of the Consulat Corps of Los Angeles. He speaks Azerbaijani, English, Russian, German, French, Spanish and Turkish languages.

 

 

 

Ramil Gurbanov

Ramil Gurbanov was Azerbaijan's Consul General to California and other 12 Western U.S. states between 2013 and 2024.

Joining Azerbaijan’s diplomatic service in 2003, Ramil Gurbanov served at Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions in Sofia (2005-09), Los Angeles (2010-13), Ankara (2015-19), Canberra (2020-23) as well as at the different departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in between the overseas postings. In Canberra, Australia, the Consul General served as Chargé d'Affaires of Azerbaijan.

He holds Master of Arts degree in International Relations, and Bachelor of Arts degree in Regional and European Studies from Azerbaijan University of Languages. He was also trained at the Pakistan Foreign Service Academy in 2004-05. 

Besides his mother tongue of Azerbaijani, R.Gurbanov is also fluent in English, Russian, Bulgarian, and Turkish.
