20 January martyrs commemorated in Los Angeles
"January 20: Commemoration and Reflection" event was organized at the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, California.
The event was attended by approximately 60 compatriots living in Los Angeles.
At the opening of the event, the national anthem of Azerbaijan was performed, and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland during and after these events were honored with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Vugar Gurbanov emphasized to the guests that the events of January 20 embody the triumph of our national will and highlighted its role on the path toward restoring Azerbaijan's independence. He also noted that our state practically honors the memory of January 20 and all other martyrs.
Gamar Khalilova, an eyewitness to the tragedy, informed the participants about the events and shared her memories regarding the bloody crimes committed against our people, as well as the efforts made to break the information blockade imposed at the time.
Following the speeches, musicians Emin Karimi, Bahman Mirzazada, and Amir Bayat performed soulful Azerbaijani music. After the musical performances, the film "Born on January 20," which depicts the heroism of sailors operating in the Caspian Sea, was screened. Additionally, an exhibition reflecting the January 20 tragedy was showcased during the event.
